Green Ball Tennis Coaching Adelaide (Ages 10-12)

Green Ball is the final step before the full yellow ball, and the stage where players make the move to the full-size court. Our ten-to-twelve-year-olds at Somerton Park develop advanced technique, point construction, and the competitive edge that prepares them for squad and tournament tennis.

What your child learns

On a full court with the slightly slower green ball, players sharpen every stroke and learn to construct points rather than just keep the ball in. Coaching focuses on consistency under pressure, serving with intent, moving an opponent around the court, and reading what the rally is asking for.

Green Ball players also build the physical and mental side of the game — footwork patterns, court coverage, and the focus and resilience competitive tennis demands. Many players at this stage begin entering match play and local competition.

How a session runs

Sessions combine technical refinement, tactical games, and competitive play on the full court. As always, we coach through feel, not formula: each player is read individually and given personal feedback every session, so technique and tactics develop around the player rather than a template.

For players showing strong commitment, Green Ball leads naturally into our Yellow Ball groups and performance squads. Groups run through the week at Somerton Park Tennis Club, and Get Active Kids vouchers are accepted toward fees.

Frequently asked questions

What is Green Ball tennis?
Green Ball is the Hot Shots stage for ages 10-12, played on a full-size court with a ball about 25% slower than a standard yellow ball. It bridges junior tennis and the full adult ball, focusing on technique, tactics, and competitive play.
Is Green Ball competitive?
It can be. Many Green Ball players begin entering match play and local competition. Sessions build the consistency, point construction, and temperament that competitive tennis needs, while keeping the game enjoyable.
What comes after Green Ball?
Green Ball leads into Yellow Ball (the full standard ball, ages 12+) and, for committed players, our performance squads. We guide each player on the right next step based on their development.
Can my child try a session first?
Yes. Book a free trial and our coaches will assess your child and recommend whether Green Ball is the right fit.
