Ages 8-10

Orange Ball Tennis Adelaide (Ages 8-10)

Orange Ball is the stage where tennis starts to look like tennis. Our eight-to-ten-year-olds step up to a three-quarter-size court with a faster orange ball, developing the technique, footwork, and tactics that turn rallying into real match play.

What your child learns

On the larger orange-ball court, children refine the strokes they built in Red Ball and add the pieces that win points: consistent rallying, directional control, the serve and return, and net play. Coaches introduce simple tactics — where to aim, when to attack, how to recover — so players begin to think their way through a point.

This is also where match temperament develops. Through regular game play and scoring, children learn to compete with good spirit, handle nerves, and bounce back from errors — the habits that carry them into Green Ball and beyond.

How a session runs

Orange Ball sessions mix technical work with plenty of live rallying and match play, so improvement is always connected to actually playing. Every player gets individual feedback each session — our coaching reads each child individually rather than running everyone through the same drill.

Some players sit between stages; our Orange/Green bridging groups let a child train across both as they are ready. Groups run across the week at Somerton Park, and Get Active Kids vouchers are accepted toward fees.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Red Ball and Orange Ball?
Orange Ball uses a faster ball on a bigger, three-quarter-size court for ages 8-10. Compared with Red Ball, players rally longer, serve and return properly, and start using real tactics and match play.
When should my child move up from Red Ball?
When they can rally consistently and are comfortable scoring, usually around age 8. We assess each child individually and will recommend the right time — there is no rush, and some players train across both stages in our Orange/Green bridging groups.
How big are the groups?
Sessions run in small groups so every player gets individual feedback each session. Exact group times for the current term are on the schedule below.
Can I book a free trial first?
